I'm not certain whether these are birch or aspen, but there were huge stand of them at 9000 feet by Kolob Reservoir. I love the white and green contrast
Located near Everglades NP, this swamp was home to hundreds of birds and alligators, not to mention beautiful, large Cypress trees.
The geography of this place seems more that of the mountains than that of Oklahoma. It was around New Years and there was still quite a bit of snow on the ground.
Taken at sunset at Bryce Canyon National Park. Wanted to take this shot in this park for about as long as I can remember. :-D
This was taken at sunset at Cheyenne Bottoms. The birds on the water are American Avocets.
This is my first attempt at shutter speed and F-stop manipulation. Lucky for me the waterfall was flowing particularly strongly that day.
The soil composition at Cheyenne Bottoms caused it to crack in a really cool way in the 100+° heat.
This was taken in the early morning as the sun rose, illuminating this arroyo as we looked for the special birds of Arizona.
Taken in winter at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone, this is a photo of the slow mineralization of a pine branch in a hot spring. The last remaining twigs have yet to be submerged, and have collected droplets of water from the steam of the hot spring
It had been at least 13 years since I had last been to Flaming Gorge when I took this picture while driving through on my way to California.
Not sure which river this is, though it might be a tributary of the Firehole. The geyser in the photo didn't have a name I could find, though there probably was one.
This is a fascinating phenomenon in which the light of the setting sun hits Horsetail Fall. For more info about it, read my blog post.
The colors of this spring were very odd to begin with; lots of bacteria, but the reflection made them even stranger.
I have never been colder than when I took this photo of the sunset at Two Harbors, Minnesota.
This was taken I believe somewhere near Joshua Tree National Monument, it was about 1 hour west of Las Vegas, NV
This is the same lake as 'Alpine Lake', I believe the boulders were part of a glacial moraine that had piled them up over the years. The lake the almost certainly glacial and probably very deep. I like the shadows on the mountain. Even though it was August, there was snow everywhere
This was actually taken during late evening, but was shot with a really high aperture. The mountain is Mt. Lassen.
This is a photo of a singing Red-winged Lark perched on top of a Hippo skull. I like this photo because it seems the essence of the circle of life.
This rock formation, along with several others, is located in Logan Co., KS. The terrain there is very atypical for Kansas in general.
We camped on top of a dune at Mescalero Sand Dunes and watched lightning storms roll in on all sides of us. That night we were treated to 360° lightning storms, like the eye of a hurricane.
This was taken near Wolf Creek Nuclear Power Plant in Linn County. I've seldom seen anything as foggy as it was this morning, and it made for some great shooting (photographically speaking that is)
Further north around San Francisco it is almost always foggy at the beach, so it was quite a pleasant surprise when I went to this state park and it was so sunny.
This was shot early in the morning while the fog in the redwoods was still thick. The sun streamed into the fog creating this effect.
This was shot in the early morning. The tree in the center is a Rhododendron, if only it had been in bloom!
This was one of my favorite shots of the trip. I like how the water ripples near the edges.
This was taken at a rest stop on I-70 in central Utah, somewhere between Zion and Capitol Reef NP's

A view of Sentinal Dome from the Yosemite Valley. The second of my two favorite Black and White photos (I have a color version of this shot too)
I really couldn't think of a good name for this photo. It makes me lonely looking at it though.
I took this when I came back to Kansas in January on a birding trip. The water was still and the sun just beginning to rise, allowing a great reflection shot.
